Essential items when travelling abroad with baby
Don’t let anyone tell you, you can’t travel with a little one. So many people tried to put me off with an 4 month old baby. I booked my flight 60 hours before heading off and these were the things I bought. The only thing to add on your behalf are your toiletries and baby clothing and that is the easiest part. Enjoy & make the most of it with your little bubba ❤️

Here are the essential items which I used for my baby travel under 6 months. These are specific for sterilising his baby bottles, dummies and any other items which I knew would go into his mouth.
To clean babies bottles
This was my main item for sterilising when travelling with baby especially as he was under 6 months. This collapsible bucket doesn’t weigh much or take up any space in your suitcase. It was worth taking for cleaning in soapy water and sterilising using the Milton Tablets. I would leave the bottles in this bucket and left to sterilise for 15 minutes while I went down for breakfast with the kids. I would recommend this item for those who want quick and easy sterilising.
To sterilise babies bottles
This item was used with the bucket. All I did was add cold water to my cleaned bottles and I used one tablet a day. I would wash my bottles and at the end of the day pop them into the collapsible bucket over night. Pop a tablet into the bucket and let sterilise for over 15 minutes. Easy and straightforward.
To clean babies bottles
I used one fairy liquid bottle which was enough to cover me for 7 days of cleaning the bottles. Didn’t have to use much as a little goes a long way!
To clean babies bottles
I was starting to get sick and tired of buying cheap baby bottle brush cleaners and having to pop out to the store every 2 weeks as they were really flimsy and would break really easily until I purchased this exact bottle brush. I used this to clean my bottles while abroad. It is very sturdy and did not break on us when using it as compared to other bottle brushes. I still use it till this day!
To sterilise surfaces around the baby
This is an additional item if you would like to add into your suitcase if you are wary about germs and bacteria in the hotel. When we arrived. I cleaned surfaces such as the kettle, shower tray and sink to make sure the baby is safe away from the germs and nasties. As an overthinking mum, you don’t know what is laying around on the surfaces.
To sterilise baby bottles quickly
This an essential item if your hotel has a microwave accessible in your room. I used this in the times for quick sterilising using the hotels microwave. This is honestly the best microwave sterilising bag which I have used from birth when I was healing postpartum to reduce my workload of cleaning the bottles. I had received this from the hospital and it is a reoccurring purchase ever since. Clean your bottles, pop it into the microwave and your items are sterile.
To boil water or sterilise bottles
This is a very hand item if you again like myself are an overthinking mum and do not want to use the hotels kettle. I took this with me just in case the hotel did not have a microwave or a kettle. This is ideal as you can collapse the kettle into your suitcase in order to save you space. You can boil water and sterilise bottles.

To keep baby shaded from the sun
Babies under 6 months have very sensitive skin and should be kept out of direct sunlight and a peak times depending on where you a travelling. This item is something I recommend to all mums who are travelling to a very hot country. I used the Snoozeshade everywhere I went when it was in hot weather and where the sun was at its peak. It stopped baby from being fussy from being hot and bothered. I was able to get my baby to nap while out and about. It creates a shaded environment in the pram and it is breathable. It is now my routine when it is sunny even when not abroad!
To prevent baby from overheating
This is my next recommended item when travelling abroad with a baby. I used to make sure my baby was comfortable in the warm weather. This was used from the moment my baby was outside in the heat. It kept him well cooled and he was able to enjoy the sun too. I was able to carry the fan around and attach it on the pram. I must say this items is very sturdy and did not come off although the octopus arms can be quite tricky to get on but once its on it won’t budge.
To prevent bite marks
It’s always best to carry on some form of mosquito spray or insect spray. This is great for hot weathers when travelling. My baby has not been bitten but it is useful to have just in case!
To prevent sunburn
I used this brand of sun cream which can also be purchased from boots. It was brilliant, my baby never burned and had no skin reactions (sensitive skin) and no clothes with yellow stains!

Handsfree rocking
This is an excellent product and would recommend to everyone. While you are on holiday, things can get very tiring and the last thing you need is to rock your baby and back and forth after a long day or when you’re just about to eat. This was a game changer for my baby’s sleep when on holiday. This little device is great at rocking the pram and helped our bubba sleep well. The battery lasts ages and you can adjust the speed on it. It has helped to keep my baby settled.
To keep baby sleeping for longer
This Dream Egg white noise machine was used on the go when baby needed a nap. It is hard to get my baby under 6 months to settle in a different environment with different noises as they were well aware of what was going around them so everything was a distraction to them. This helped with naps in the pram and encouraged longer sleep. This was perfect for my light little sleeper to block out the noises from outside.

Let baby enjoy the pool and be protected from the sun
If you have a pool in the hotel which you are travelling to with your baby then this is the perfect item to purchase as I did. My baby was supported in the water and he was able to burn his energy by kicking his arms and legs in the water. My little bubba absolutely loved it as he was able to float around while being protected in the sun.
Swimming nappies
This is an essential item if you’re going to be spending a lot of time in the swimming pool with your little one. Normal nappies will soak in the pool and so these swim nappies which I had bought a of great quality. They have the same fit of a nappy and is easily taken on and off when my bubba likes to make a fuss out of the water. Personally, I have not had any leaks from this so I would recommend this to mums who are going all out in the water.
Let baby enjoy the pool
This is not 100% essential however, I put this in to my recommendations as I have taken this with me and my bubba enjoyed it. It is great for those babies hitting the 5-6 months mark and are able to sit with support. This gave my baby supported seating while in the pool. Not only did I find this useful in the swimming pool but also when it came to the shower. I was able to use this instead of holding bubba and to clean him without him slipping and sliding all over my hands.
To protect baby skin from UV rays
If you’re going to be spending a lot of time in the swimming pool with your little one, get this! This is great for when baby is in the water or swimming pool. This helped to protect my baby's skin from (UV) rays. This can be especially helpful for babies, since clothing protection doesn't wear off like sunscreen can. It is a very comfortable material, easy to put on and off. It is great for the hot weather and it was not too warm or tight on bubba.

To carry all your baby items
I would recommend this to every mum to buy when baby travelling as you cannot rely on your travel pram to carry everything. This was my go to backpack when travelling. It has many compartments inside to organise baby’s stuff such as their nappies, wipes, clothing and bottles. It was spacious enough and I was able to add in extra stuff such as snacks - I really recommend it! It was really sturdy, with firm handles. It is a great value for money as I use it on my daily go to outings. It comes with a changing mat which is a bonus. It does feel a bit bulky but it is ideal for fitting lots of things in.
To carry baby
This is an essential to pack even if you may not use it. I used it when on my travel as my 5 month baby was quite fussy in the pram and wanted to be close to me. There were some days where a pram was not accessible as the pavements were rocky or I had to visit in busy markets places and I wanted to comfort and reassurance of my baby being close to me. It is not always ideal to take a travel pram with you as many countries may not be pram friendly and so this was very useful for me as I was able to monitor and hold baby at all times.
To clean items
I bought these Milton antibacterial wipes to clean the surfaces when we were out and about. I used these just in case my baby’s dummy dropped or anything else a quick wipe and it was clean!

To protect baby’s ears from popping
I would recommend this item when flying on the plane. I used the baby ear muffs to reduce the plan noise and pressure and to make my bubba more comfortable when going off on take offs and landing.
